This March, Pitt undergraduates will elect a new President and Vice President and 7 new Board Members to represent them for the 2026-2027 Academic Year. Students interested in running for Board must be full-time registered non-CGS undergraduate students on the Oakland campus of the University of Pittsburgh, and must also have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher and be in good standing with the University of Pittsburgh.

Summary of the Elections Code
While this attempts to summarize important parts of the Elections Code, it is essential to read the entire Elections Code for all regulations:

Candidates are not allowed to utilize University-owned resources, including social media and departmental space, to promote people to vote for them in the Election.

All items that are distributed to potential voters must be told to the Elections Chair and Committee. Additionally, the Elections Committee needs to agree on every item that is distributed. Besides t-shirts, no item costing more than $5 may be distributed.

The Elections Committee reserves the right to determine the value of all items distributed as a part of a candidate’s campaign. Proof of an item’s value shall be disclosed to the Elections Committee in the form of a receipt or an invoice.

Campaigning and posting of all printed material must be in accordance with all University rules and regulations, as well as local, state, and federal statutes.

The Elections Committee reserves the right to regulate the size, quantity, and content of all posters used in the targeted campaign by candidates and slates.

Stickers, self-adhesive materials, the painting of windows, doors, or other fixtures, and any other placing of campaign materials that in some way damages or defaces walls, doors, windows, or other University fixtures are prohibited.

Campaign Managers and Campaign Staff shall be the only non-candidates actively participating in the campaign of any election prior to the day before the Election.

Endorsements are strictly regulated by the Elections Committee and are reserved for SORC-registered student organizations. Endorsements not approved by the Elections Committee is a strict violations of the Elections Code.

Each slate or independent candidate have an absolute campaign spending limit of $1,200.

The Elections Committee shall monitor all social media accounts for all campaigns.

If a candidate is unsure about any rule in the Elections Code, they shall contact the Elections Chair or a member of the Elections Committee.

Ignorance of a regulation is not an acceptable defense for violation of the Elections Code or policies set forth by the Elections Committee.
